WISCONSIN LEGISLATORS PROPOSE WAKE-SURFING REGULATIONS

 

Your Wisconsin State legislators have been busy this past week by introducing three separate bills regarding Wake-Surfing Activities on Wisconsin Lakes

Senate Bill 1033
Establishes a 200′ minimum distance from shoreline and no water depth restrictions
Senate Bill 1025
Defines Wake-surfing as an aquaplaning activity and subject to set boating regulations

Senate Bill 1024
Establishes a 500′ buffer from shorelines and a minimum of 20′ depth, adds to the types of boating ordinances municipalities may adopt on wake enhanced boating, and grants civil immunity to the state, any governmental subdivision or agency of the state
(This bill is competing with SB1033 and will be considered next week)

The TLWA membership overwhelmingly supports protecting our waterways by regulating wake-surfing activity closely aligned with provisions in Senate Bill 1024
(Petition signed by over 500 members from Fall, 2025)
